Back by popular demand–Doug Tabbutt will be our host for a return visit to Switchcars on Saturday April 30th from 10 am- noon.
Join other section members & car enthusiasts for a fun morning at Switchcars! We anticipate good weather so you can bring out your favorite toy (or your daily driver) for us to admire. In addition to looking at the selection of exotic and unusual cars on display while we enjoy the provided coffee & donuts, we’ll get the chance to learn about Doug Tabbutt’s adventures with the Cannonball Run—and maybe some info about Lemons racing!
In 2019, Doug Tabbutt and Arne Toman set out to break the 6-year standing Cannonball record, which is the drive from New York’s Redball Garage to the Portofino Hotel in Redondo Beach, CA. The Cannonball Run was made famous in the 1970s by Brock Yates of Car & Driver magazine, culminating with the movie based on the race released in 1981.
Mercedes have always finished well, but never won an original Cannonball Run race, however, they have held many of the modern records. Doug & Arne chose a 2015 Mercedes E63 as their weapon of choice.
