Fall Leaf Tour Saturday October 26th

Section members Jim and Barb Tullis have arranged a fun and interesting event for our annual Fall Leaf Tour. The latest weather forecasts indicate that fall colors will continue into late October this year, so this is a great opportunity to drive through a beautiful countryside, tour a very popular collection, and enjoy Amish cooking at its finest!

Plan to meet at the Bob Evans in Fairlawn (4076 Medina Rd, Akron 44333; I-77 exit 137a East—I-77/Rt. 18) no later than 8:45 am on Saturday October 26th. Our caravan will depart from Bob Evans at 9:00 for a scenic drive through Amish Country en route to the Age of Steam Roundhouse (213 Smokey Lane Rd SW, Sugarcreek) —home of the world’s largest private collection of steam locomotives. Our 90-minute docent-led tour begins at 11:00 and includes an immersive trip back into the heyday era of steam locomotives and travel.

Highlights of our guided tour are an 18-stall, accurately reconstructed brick roundhouse surrounding a 115-foot turntable, and a fully functioning, working back shop where skilled Roundhouse staff actively continue to restore and repair steam locomotives.

Additionally, visitors will discover the tools used to keep locomotives on the rails, the bells, whistles and lights that made these engines unique, and much more.

After the tour, our group will continue to The Chalet in the Valley in Charm (5060 State Rt 557, Millersburg) for a 1:15 lunch where we’ll order off the menu and pay individual tabs. The leaf tour will conclude with a trip across the street to visit Guggisberg Cheese-home of the Baby Swiss–Awarded 2019 #1 Cheese in America!

Registration is a $15 per person discounted rate for the tour.

Registration is available online here or by mail using the form below.
