Stonehouse

That evening, we’ll take a half-mile jaunt  to The Stone House Inn on the National Pike.  The Inn is a historic building constructed in 1822.  Cocktails are at 6:30 followed by dinner at 7:00.  Choose from 4 enticing entrees–(1) Sweet Potato Crab Cakes (chef’s specialty), (2) Fresh Rainbow Trout,(3) Stone Cut Sirloin Steak, and (4) Seafood Fra Diavalo (clams, mussels, and crab mixed with fettuccini and spicy pasta sauce).

After a continental breakfast Sunday morning, we’ll arrive at Fallingwater , a beautiful and historic home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The home was designed and built in the mid-1930s for the Kaufmann family, the Pittsburgh scions of department store fame, and has become a National Historic Landmark. Fallingwater is the only major Wright house open to the public with its original artwork, furnishings, and setting. This is not the normal public tour–we will have the chance to explore the home in a private, in-depth tour.  Our guides have a deep, broad knowledge and will interpret Fallingwater in many contexts including: historical, architectural, and the relationship between the house and surrounding landscape.  Our tour begins at 8:15 and will last about 2 hours.

2 notes about the tour:  1. Fallingwater does not permit children under age 9  to attend the tour, and     2. the private tour is limited to 30 people. If you don’t register in time and miss the cut, you are still welcome to join us on the drive and dinner and will be able to take the public tour beginning at 10:00 am.

After the tour, we’ll drive to lunch, then proceed home, returning by 5:00 pm via a different, scenic route than our Saturday travels, or by 2:00 pm, by an express route.

Cost of the trip is $110.00 per person which includes dinner at The Stone House Inn and tour of Fallingwater.
