Gemutlichkeit Workshops & Tours

Gemutlichkeit 2011 participants will have the opportunity to attend seminars and workshops by the following presenters:

George Murphy
Performance Analysis Company

The Future with Your Electronic Mercedes-Benz

Owners of those high tech Mercedes-Benz are beginning to find out that all of those electronics and the diagnosis of their troubles are very expensive. Here are some tips on what to do when the warranty runs out on your electronic MB. What will these cars be like in 20 years? How will we restore them?

George Murphy is the National Technical Director of MBCA and a contributing editor to The STAR, the magazine of the MBCA. He has authored several articles about care and repair of Mercedes-Benz automobiles published in The STAR magazine and other publications. George owns the Performance Analysis Company which operates an MBCA engine oil analysis program, manufacturers aluminum-body climate control servos and other hard-to-find M-B parts, rebuilds M-B climate and cruise control components, and performs appraisals on M-Bs.

Fred Gwinn
Reverse Logic Limited

Fred will discuss the various type of factory jack points used on Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the last ten years and the challenges which face do-it-yourselfers when attempting to raise their late model Mercedes-Benz with floor jacks and ramps.

Fred Gwinn has been a Board Member of the Western Reserve Section of MBCA since 2006. He owns Reverse Logic Limited, a manufacturer and distributor of chassis specific tools to facilitate do-it-yourself auto maintenance on modern Mercedes-Benz and BMW cars.

George W. Saylor, P.E.
Ohio Freeway Management System

HIghways of the Future

George Saylor is responsible for developing the freeway management systems in Ohio. Ohio has recently constructed a Statewide Traffic Management Center from which all of its existing and planned freeway systems will be managed. George’s presentation will discuss the design and operation of these systems and how it relates to the driver. One interesting aspect is that these systems were developed with full knowledge that the data and information will probably be provided directly to the driver from the automobile.

ARTIMIS is one of Ohio’s four existing freeway management systems. Ohio will be transitioning ARTIMIS operations over the next year and updating it to meet current requirements. George will speak specifically about Ohio’s entire system and highlight the individual systems around the State.

Local Tours

Amish Tour

The Amish tour (one of our most popular events at Starfest 2004) will be on Monday May 23rd. Activities include visit to an Amish home for a hand-made basket demonstration and a trip to nearby Kidron to visit the well-known Lehman Hardware store filled with many non-electrical and hard-to-find items. Enjoy a hearty home-cooked Amish meal at an Amish homesteadbaked chicken, roast beef, mashed potatoes, noodles, vegetables, and of course some home-baked pie for dessert. The afternoon continues with a demonstration of candlemaking and concludes with a visit to the town of Berlin with plenty of time to shop for crafts and goodies. Best of all, the entire tour is done on a tour bus so you don’t need to worry about navigation or driving–just enjoy the sights! Space is limited, so make your reservation now.

Ohio State Reformatory Tour & Luncheon

Enjoy lunch and tour the historic Ohio State Reformatory on Tuesday May 24th. Complete registration details available soon.

Built in 1886, Ohio State Reformatory served for 94 years as a working prison, housing more than 154,000 prisoners. Ohio State Reformatory has been the setting for major motion pictures, including The Shawshank Redemption, Air Force One and Tango and Cash. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the prison boasts the world’s largest free-standing steel cellblock. Some say former inmates still walk the halls of the Ohio State Reformatory.
