Northern Ohio Region German Auto Show Sunday Sept. 12th

The annual NOR German Auto Show will be held at the Donauschwaben German-American Center 7370 Columbia Rd., Olmsted Falls, OH on Sunday September 12th. The event is hosted by the Northern Ohio Region Porsche Club of America and is open to any German vehicle. Participating clubs include the Western Reserve Section, Valley Chapter of the Audi Club, and the Northern Ohio chapter of the BMW Club. Last years event had 100+ vehicles on display including a nice contingent of M-Bs from our section. Photos from the 2009 event are on our photo gallery here. Come and enjoy an afternoon of great German cars and authentic German food!

Berea Oktoberfest Labor Day Car Show Sat. Sept. 4th

You’re invited to the 5th annual Oktoberfest Car Show on Labor Day weekend (Sept. 3-Sept. 6). The Car Show is Saturday, Sept. 4th, Rain or Shine. Car show participants receive free entry to the Oktoberfest, two souvenir mugs and are also eligible for lots of prizes. Although this is not a Western Reserve Section event, we displayed over 20 cars in 2009 and would like to increase that total this year. Judging of cars is to be done by club members and officials for special awards.

Expect a fun weekend with lots of good German food and drink, outstanding entertainment, wiener dog races, international performing groups, a Cleveland Pops concert on Sept 5th, an arts and crafts show, world champ sand sculptor Carl Jara, myriad bands, a puppet show, hay rides for kids and much more!

Enter at Gate 1 on Eastland Road in the Cuyahoga Fairgrounds in Berea, OH. Cars should be on the field by 10:30AM and not leave before 4PM (but stay as long as you like).

Annual Old Car Fun Day Saturday August 21st

You’ve been waiting patiently, and now it’s time again for the Annual Western Reserve Section Old Car Fun Day. This event draws twenty to thirty cars from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. And we get some older and some newer. It’s great fun looking at interesting old cars, talking car stuff, and hanging out with friends and making new acquaintances.

We’re doing it again on Saturday, August 21 from 11:00 ‘til 3:00. We’re going back to the venue of the first Old Car Fun Day– Bill VerDuin’s home. There’s plenty of room for us to park on the lawn (and driveway if it’s wet). This event is all about the oldies. Some of us just love the pre-80’s cars, and we want to see them all. If you’ve got a pre-80’s car, bring it, whether it’s a show car or a driver. And tell us all about it – how you got it, why you like it, what you’ve done to it or had done. If you don’t have an oldie, come anyway and see some fun cars and hear about some true-life adventures in maintenance and restoration.

Cruisin’ Solon Tuesday August 3rd

Do you like looking at a wide variety of cars of all styles and ages? Enjoy meeting and talking with other auto enthusiasts? Then you will want to join the Western Reserve Section at Cruisin’ Solon on Tuesday, August 3rd from 5-8 p.m. We will have a special Mercedes-Benz parking area for 2-seat sports car night. Your Mercedes-Benz is not a 2-seater? Have another special toy hiding in your garage? No problem–all makes and models are welcome! Refreshments and food are available from a variety of vendors. Our section displayed over 30 cars last year–let’s shoot for 50 in 2010! There is no event registration and there will be no event flyer, so mark your calendars now, bring a friend, and plan to attend. Spread Eagle Tavern Brunch/New Member Party presented by Fred Martin Mercedes-Benz

Join us on Sunday, July 18th for our fun annual caravan to the Spread Eagle Tavern. We will convoy or meet at the Spread Eagle Tavern in the historic canal town of Hanoverton, Ohio. The Tavern is more than 150 years old and is located in a historic district of similarly aged buildings. The display of shiny Mercedes-Benz automobiles driven to the event by our members makes a beautiful sight parked among the brick and clapboard ancient buildings on tree shaded lanes. Don’t forget your camera!

Meet us at 9:15 AM at the Home Depot parking lot in Streetsboro (1/2 mile east of Turnpike exit 187) to join our caravan to the tavern or drive directly to the Spread Eagle Tavern (10150 Plymouth St., Hanoverton, OH 44423).

We’ll gather for brunch at 11:00 at the Tavern, and after plenty of time to view the town, we’ll convoy a short distance to the lovely home of Frank and Mary Alice Cozza, for a relaxed afternoon–ice cream, good company, and of course a wide variety of our favorite cars to admire. Bring your swim gear for a dip in their pool or in Guilford Lake a few hundred feet from their home. Casual attire. Bring the kids/grandkids. Boat rides, door prizes, 50/50 raffle, car talk and good fun.

2010 Horse Country Tour Sunday June 27th

Country day drive and tour of historic horse properties plus al fresco dining at White-North preserve in Hunting Valley. The Horse Country Tour was our most popular event of 2009 and is back this year better than ever with a different driving route and many new things to see.

Yes, soon it will be time to rev up your favorite Mercedes for a summer day of touring fun in the name of open countryside. You will enjoy this dynamic tour as you travel pastoral back roads and visit private country estates.

What is the Horse Country Road Tour? The tour is an MBCA Western Reserve Section event to raise funds for the Western Reserve Land Conservancy and the preservation of open countryside across the 18 counties that make up our region. This year’s event will begin the day around 11am with a light brunch of coffee and Danish at the White-North preserve (3160 Chagrin River Road, Hunting Valley 44022), meeting and greeting each other and visiting the horses. Then it’s on the road as the first Mercedes drives into an afternoon of charm and fun as you see why wealthy Cleveland industrialists were attracted to this area’s natural beauty.

The White-North property is rich in horse history dating back to 1915 when Windsor T. White owned over 1,000 acres on both banks of the Chagrin River. White-North – once a pillar of the sporting life – still boasts vast acres of open meadows with historic stables and out buildings along river frontage, all preserved through the efforts of the Western Reserve Land Conservancy. This is just one of the sites on our day tour of country roads, cobble courts and bridle paths, which hark back to a more peaceful and unspoiled past – a rural past worthy of preservation. And when our afternoon tour winds down, we return to White-North to enjoy a social mixer and tour. Around 5pm we sit down to a gourmet al fresco buffet and share stories of the day’s adventures while enjoying a musical quartet.

You are invited to attend. Rain or shine. The entire day’s events, including dinner, are $55 per person and advance tickets are required as this event sells out ($25 of your ticket is tax deductible). You have the choice of arriving at 11am for the full day, or arriving at 4pm for buffet dinner and stable tour. Please respond early – space is limited!

Join the International Stars section and MBCA members from the Great Lakes Region for a fun day at the prestigious Concours d’Elegance of America at Meadowbrook held at Meadowbrook Hall on the campus of Oakland University in Rochester, MI. The concours will feature over 200 cars displayed by invitation-only in categories including celebrity classics, early drag cars, european luxury, motorcycles, vintage, and antiques. Tours of Meadowbrook Hall, home of the widow of auto pioneer John Dodge, are also available.

The $25 per person admission charge includes special close-in parking and lunch. You must RSVP by June 15th to receive the special parking privileges. Complete details are in the flyer below:

Coppus Motors Mercedes-Benz Fun Day

Coppus Mercedes-Benz will be our sponsor for our regional Mercedes-Benz Fun Day to be held on Sunday May 16th at Sandusky High School. In addition to the traditional defensive driving school and autocross, event chair Fred Gesell has added a “fun” car show for members to have a chance to display and show their cars in a very relaxed setting. Do you want to become a safer highway driver? Or explore the limits of your car in a low-speed controlled environment? Or just want to enjoy your car and meet and talk with other Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts? If any of the above apply to you, you won’t want to miss this event!

Fun Car Show

At your choice, you can either display your car for others to enjoy and appreciate, or enter it to be judged. The judging parameters are much more relaxed than a typical MBCA Concours event, so enter your car even if you think it is not a show car—you might win an award! Judged cars are eligible for very special recognition—the Coppus Motors Sponsor’s Choice Trophy.

Defensive Driving

The MBCA defensive driving course is designed to help you to become a safer, more confident highway driver. The morning begins with a 9:00am classroom session that will teach proper driving techniques as well as vehicle dynamics and Mercedes-Benz safety systems. Then jump in your car with one of our qualified instructors to drive through various courses of cones designed to teach you accident avoidance and car control. All the exercises are done in a controlled environment at low speed in a wide-open parking lot. At the end of the day, you’ll be awarded a certificate of completion. Any safe car is welcome—it doesn’t have to be a Mercedes-Benz

Autocross

In the afternoon you’ll put your newly honed skills to the test in our autocross. The objective of the autocross is to navigate a course of pylon cones (with a performance driving instructor, if you wish) as quickly as you are comfortable without hitting any cones. There will be awards for the fastest times. This is fun for everyone, with age or gender no barrier.

Join us for our awards dinner after the event at a local restaurant. Pay your own tab.

What do I have to bring? Helmet, if you have one (Club has loaners); Lawn Chairs, Soft Drinks.

Young drivers are particularly welcome. To encourage teens to come, there’s no charge for family members ( licensed drivers between the ages of 16 and 20) when accompanied by a participating member.

What does it cost? $25 per member or guest – includes lunch. Ages 16-20 free.

2010 Cleveland Auto Show Dinner presented by M-B of North Olmsted

Join us at the I-X Center in Berea on opening night, Feb. 27^th, for our annual Cleveland Auto Show Dinner presented by Mercedes-Benz of North Olmsted. This is a great opportunity to see the latest from Mercedes-Benz including the AMG SLS Gullwing and the SL65 Black Series!. In addition, the Cleveland Auto Show is the fifth-largest show in North America so you also can see the latest concepts from all the manufacturers. For old-car lovers, the Classic Car Show is back again this year.

Enter the Auto Show any time on Saturday, February 27^th Members and guests are welcome! We’ll meet at the Mercedes-Benz display at 6:30 p.m., and walk to a private room where we’ll feast on a hot dinner, with your choice of Lasagna or Lemon Chicken.

Those who wish to have a self-guided group tour of highlights of the show, meet at the Mercedes-Benz exhibit at 5:00.

Back by popular demand will be MBUSA marketing specialist Robert Daschil who will fill us in on current state of Mercedes-Benz–sales, new & future products, the new “green” hybrid technology.
